Grow Indigo’s Ragini Project Achieves Verra Registration Across Four Indian States

One of Grow Indigo’s most complex carbon projects to date is now registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, following a rigorous multi-round technical review

New Delhi, September 17, 2026

Grow Indigo has achieved another major milestone in its soil carbon portfolio with the successful Verra registration of Ragini (VCS 4768) formally titled “Regenerative Agriculture in the Ganga-Basin for Farmer Income and Climate Impact”  a large-scale regenerative agriculture project spanning four states across the Ganga basin: Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Given its extensive geographic footprint, multiple crops, diverse agricultural practices, and the range of quantification approaches involved, Verra classified Ragini as a very-high-complexity project, one of the most demanding categories under its standard. The project was submitted for review on 25 September 2025 and underwent three intensive Project Review Report (PRR) rounds before reaching registration.

The project is registered under Verra’s VM0042 methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management, with a 20-year crediting period and a longevity of upto 40 years. Its first project activity instance covers roughly 7,000 hectares across districts in Uttar Pradesh (Bahraich, Gonda, Gorakhpur) and Madhya Pradesh (Barwani, Dhar, Khargone, Khandwa), with a longer-term ambition to scale to up to 2 million hectares across all four states.

Farmers participating in Ragini adopt one or more regenerative practices including direct-seeded rice, alternate wetting and drying, reduced tillage, fertigation, crop residue management, and the inclusion of nitrogen-fixing species across a rice-wheat-cotton cropping system. These practices are designed to cut methane and nitrous oxide emissions, build soil organic carbon, and reduce water and input use, while Grow Indigo shares upto 60% of net carbon credit proceeds directly with participating farmers.

Sapana Pednekar, Head of Carbon Program, Grow Indigo  said “Ragini’s registration reflects the depth of technical rigor our team brings to highly complex carbon projects. Across four states and multiple cropping systems, we worked through three rounds of Verra review to reach this milestone which stands as proof that credible, farmer-first carbon solutions can be built at scale in India. It’s a testament to the perseverance of everyone who worked on it and we look forward to bringing the same commitment to verification.

Ragini now enters its verification phase, the next step toward credit issuance. This milestone builds on the dedicated work of teams across data collection, quantification, documentation, technical review, and query resolution work that spanned a full year from submission to registration.

Grow Indigo continues to expand its portfolio of nature-based climate solutions across India, working with smallholder farmers to deliver credible, high-integrity carbon outcomes alongside improved soil health and farm resilience.
